Carburetor fuel level

A fuel top level in carburetor fuel chamber is important for proper carburetor operation. The fuel flow from carburetor's fuel chamber to carburetor needle jet (main nozzle) does not depend on vacuum created in Venturi tube and needle jet size only but on fuel level in fuel chamber as well. Yamaha defined what should be the top level of fuel inside carburetor's fuel chamber and when float bowl should close the valve. For xv535 that's from 13,5 mm to 14,5 mm under horizontal mark on carburetor's side cover.

Clear (transparent) hose method

The carburetor's chamber fuel level could be measured if one plugs a transparent hose to carburetor's drain plug (hose internal diameter should be 6 mm), then unscrew drain screw to pass the fuel into transparent hose (keep it over the horizontal mark). The fuel level in transparent hose is the level of fuel in carburetor's fuel chamber and it has to be 14 mm under the mark embossed on cover.

The fuel level in xv535 carburetor's fuel chamber has to be 14 mm
under horizontal mark on carburetor's cover

If the fuel in carburetor's fuel chamber is not on this level, the carburetor has to be disassembled (the carb has not to be removed from motorcycle frame, it's enough to just remove side cover) then ypu shopuld little bit bend the float bowl tap, depending whether the level is under or over the mark, put the float bow back under the float valve, put back the cover and measure again and repeat this procedure until the proper fuel level is reached.
