The clutch (ger. Kupplung) is mechanism which translates the rotation of engine (crankshaft) to bike's drive. Today the vast majority of motorcycles being made employ wet clutch packs. On all Virago models the clutch is made as plated wet clutch meaning that clutch plates are bathed in engine oil all the time and the oil’s primary purpose is to cool the clutch plates. The drawback of that is that wet clutches do make your engine oil dirty faster since all the dust that’s created as the clutch wears stays inside the engine.
Yamaha xv535 Virago - wet plated clutch |
On diagram one can see the clutch corb (#6) where 6 friction plates (#13) and 5 steel plates (#14) are alternating. Additional steel plate (#11) is different than others and goes close to clutch boss (#8). Friction plates do have outward theet (#13) and transfer the rotation from clutch corb, and steel plates (#14) do have inward theet towards threads of clutch boss (#8). At the end of this plates stack there is a cover (#15) pushed by 5 springs (#16) in order to squeeze frictiona and steel plates together kako bi došlo do prijenosa rotacije s jednih na druge odnosno s radilice na pogon motora.
