Generally, all Virago motorcycles on rear wheel do have a drum brake. Smaller Virago models (from xv125 up to xv535) do have only one brake disc on front wheel (right side) while bigger Virago models (from xv700 to xv1100) do have two brake discs on front wheel. (Yamaha xv750 Virago at the beginning of its production (1981-1983) did have only one brake disc on front wheel but in 1984. it was changed to two brake discs).

At the beginning brake discs were of sold profile, later spots (slotted profile) and finally holes (drilled profile) were added on discs for noise reduction and better cooling. Also at the beginning brake calipers did have only one-piston caliper, but later it was changed to two-piston calipers.
